To Ban or Not to Ban Online Gambling - 2003-03-13
An undersized bipartisan group of legislators is seeking to permit states to regulate and tax online gambling, even as others in Congress renew aims to abolish the burgeoning form of wagering.

Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) initiated legislation that would pave the road to authorizing Internet gambling in states interested in licensing, overseeing and compiling taxes from the growing industry.

A moderate bipartisan group of lawmakers is anticipating the permitting of states to regulate and tax Internet gambling, even as others in Congress renew attempts to abolish the burgeoning form of wagering.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., brought in legislation Wednesday that would pave the way to legalizing online gambling in states interested in licensing, supervising and gathering taxes from the growing industry.
