The Village Council voted to procure 82 acres of land for a possible Indian casino even though council members are undecided how they'll pay for it, and the property owner has threatened to sue the village.

The establishment of a casino has "weighed heavily on our minds the past months," Councilman Keith Maurer insisted. "Most of the negative input has been on the gambling issue and not the development issue as a whole."

Some Legislators Want Online Gambling Controls - 2003-03-13
A small bipartisan cluster of legislators wants to let states manage and tax Internet gambling, even as others in Congress freshen efforts to abolish the burgeoning form of wagering.

Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., introduced legislation Wednesday that would pave the road to sanctioning online gambling in states interested in licensing, overseeing and rounding up taxes from the budding industry.
