New tax plans gaining ground with Nevada legislators - 2003-03-15
Until Friday, Gov. Kenny Guinn's $1 billion tax plan set the agenda in the Nevada Legislature's deliberation of how to maintain the state's revenues and wide open budget holes. That's about to change.

New Democratic bills would exceed the casino industry-backed plan by exlcuding dozens of state tax exemptions and tweaking a proposed property tax upsurge.

Indian leaders gather to contest state bill - 2003-03-15
Tribal leaders asked state legislators Friday to contest a bill that would deprive some Indian tribes of state recognition, even though the acknowledgement was contracted years ago.

The proposal, one of several bills welcomed this year to prohibit new casinos from opening in Connecticut, would retract state recognition from tribes that do not hold federal recognition.
