Miner insists Fonner Park be included in expanded gaming - 2003-03-15
Fonner Park executive Hugh Miner Jr. is declining getting drawn into a war of words on whether Omaha is the only practical site for casino gambling in Nebraska.

A March 9 Omaha World-Herald article reported that casinos in more modest communities, such as Grand Island, "would produce low-end facilities with few amenities, and they almost certainly would be drags on the regional economies."

Turfway won't surrender despite gambling competition - 2003-03-15
It's been an unsuccessful winter at Turfway Park.
• Fifteen days of horse racing were disregarded and $3 million was lost because of harsh weather.
• Kentucky lawmakers repudiated the allowance of slot machines at the track to lure more gamblers.

He stated casino gambling has cost the entire thoroughbred trade, but tracks like Turfway, where the casino gaming is an easy drive away, are being severely affected.
