Richmond tribal casino: Is it a positive bet or economic gamble? - 2003-03-17
Senator Don Perata (D-East Bay) has given his opinion on the proposed tribal casino at the Port of Richmond, insisting Mayor Irma Anderson to reject the plan in a recent letter.

To defend the stance, he listed specific negative conclusions from a 2000 Harvard research analysis of the economic impacts of tribal casinos in 100 regions that were reviewed.

Horseshoe Casino is very near to settling charges of unconventional business practices that may clear the way for the Bossier City riverboat to possess unconditional five-year renewal of its gaming license.

LSU law professor Ray Lamonica, who researched Horseshoe and other Louisiana riverboat casinos as a demand by the board, stated that a hearing to decide Horseshoe's fate is set to start on Tuesday. "There is no signed settlement agreement."
