Over $2 billion will be illegally gambled by Americans through access to offshore Internet gambling sites this year, according to testimony Tuesday morning before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.

Although the Internet is bombarded with ads publicizing offshore casinos, it is, in fact, illegal for Americans to bet through the sites. Similarly, it is illegal for Americans to place sports wagers through Web sites.

Bar Owner Confronts Gambling Charge - 2003-03-18
Charges were issued Monday against a Cameron man accused of illegally running a slot machines operation at his rural bar.

James Coleman Daniel, 56, is charged with commercial gambling, possession of a gambling instrument and possession of alcohol with the aim to sell it without a permit.
