Governor attempts to keep gambling money home - 2003-03-20
In his incessant campaign to authorize slot machines, Gov. Robert Ehrlich often deliberates the daily exodus of Marylanders headed to tracks in neighboring states where they gamble away their money-- millions annually.

With slots currently legal in Delaware and West Virginia and with Pennsylvania are taking slot machine legislation into account this year. He insisted that this is Maryland's best opportunity to cash in on the gambling bonanza.

As the U.S. Congress again takes up the issue of online gambling, Congressional representatives are confronted with bills that take diametrically opposite styles.
Rep. Jim Leach’s bill, H.R. 21, attacks online gambling by postponing its financial underpinnings, placing enforcement responsibilities on financial institutions, while Rep. John Conyers’ bill sets up a commission to research what the best response is and potentially regulate the industry.
