Online Gambling Ban's Delay Brings Criticism - 2003-03-21
The Department of Justice generated a sharp opposition Tuesday from senators angered by the department's postponement in taking a position on legislation to abolish online gambling.
Although the Bush administration generally advocates efforts to cut off money transfers to and from illegal Internet gambling businesses, Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Malcolm stated the Justice Department is worried about criminal provisions in online betting prohibitions proposed by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Rep. Jim Leach, R-Iowa.
