Bad Bet? Congress Wants to Moderate Online Gambling - 2003-03-24
Psst! Want a good bet? Americans adore places to make bets, legally or illegally. Want a better bet? Internet gambling has converted from a nuisance vice to a bolstering e-commerce empire stimulated in great part by Americans. Want the best bet? Congress wants to do something about it.

Nothing? The Justice Department says current laws already make all Internet gambling illegal for Americans. The 1961 Wire Wager Act in particular prohibits the use of telephone lines for the purpose of making a sporting bet.

Sky City's share price fell like coins out of a slot machine last week as jittery investors feared the Government steps to ban smoking in public places like casinos.

Still, as one analyst stated, it remains to be seen whether gamblers quit smoking or smokers quit gambling.
