Tribe blasts state officials for ‘hypocrisy’ - 2003-06-10
Amid reports that jai alai may be on its way out in Newport, and Gov. Donald L. Carcieri's overt desire to help the dog owners at Lincoln Park, Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas of the Narragansett Indian tribe is once again scrutinizing state officials for "blatant hypocrisy."
Losing the dog racing and jai alai operations, Thomas said, would be a job killer. It would also, he stated, be a backdoor way of getting two gambling casinos without the voter referendum required by law.
