Maine Audubon opposes casino plan - 2003-09-13
Maine Audubon says it will be opposed to a $650 million gambling casino in southern Maine, citing the impact of casino-related sprawl on neighboring wildlife habitat and a concern that the project would not be subject to state environmental regulations.

After months of research, Maine Audubon trustees voted Wednesday to contest the project, explained Sally Stockwell, the group's director of conservation.

Wapello seeks gambling referendum - 2003-09-13
Another county will be added to the list of those to vote on a riverboat casino even though the state commission regulating gambling has not resolved whether to authorize more licenses.

Wapello County Supervisor Steve Siegel said the county has received a petition on riverboat gambling with a sufficient amount of signatures to force an election.
