Valley communities could receive millions from gambling bill - 2003-09-13
Communities in the Coachella Valley would be among the big beneficiaries in the distribution of tribal gambling funds if the governor signs a bill sent to him Friday.

Senate Bill 621 by Sen. Jim Battin, R-La Quinta, sets out the rules for allocating what is expected to be roughly $100 million a year to help offset the impact of tribal casinos on traffic, utilities, public safety and the environment.

Police arrest one, still looking for three in assault - 2003-09-13
Reno police arrested a man and are seeking three others who allegedly assaulted a 42-year-old man in downtown Reno, officials reported.

A Reno man was purportedly walking in an alley in the 300 block of North Arlington Avenue when the four suspects approached him. The man followed one of the suspects and was later helped by a pedestrian, who saw the suspect walk inside the Eldorado Hotel Casino, officials stated.
