D'Iberville Casino Plan Gets Environmental Go-ahead - 2004-01-10
An environmental impact statement for the Royal D'Iberville Hotel and Casino has been fulfilled, and the positive results mean a casino could open in two years.

The statement, which is more than 1,100 pages and took three years for the Army Corps of Engineers to finalize, found that in each case except one, a casino development will have no effect or a minimum adverse impact on the environment.

GOP leader guarantees endorsement of gambling bill - 2004-01-10
A Republican leader in the Kansas House promised Friday to endorse a bill to allow slot machines at dog and horse tracks and state-owned casinos in Dodge City and close to Junction City.

Rep. John Ballou, R-Gardner, stated that he thought his proposal would generate $150 million a year for the state. His plan would offer the state between 33 percent and 39 percent of the net earnings from the new gambling.
