Lummi Nation combats substance abuse - 2004-01-14
The Lummi Nation is raising the heat in its attempt to stop substance abuse within its borders – in addition to a possible ban on liquor sales.

After Cecilia's death, Lummi officials voted overwhelmingly to close liquor sales early that Friday and Saturday. Liquor sales at the casino could not be limited because of a contractual deal that the nation signed with its partners, Merit Management.

Gaming committee brings field down to two casino developers - 2004-01-14
A St. Louis County selection committee on Wednesday refused a proposal by Harrah's Entertainment to construct a casino in the county, calling the plan's absence of a companion site in St. Louis city "a significant concern."

A St. Louis city selection committee was intended to weigh in with its own choice Thursday, with the Missouri Gaming Commission ultimately having the last say regarding any new casino licenses.
