Sebelius supports request for state-owned casino - 2004-01-14
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will suggest a state-owned casino close to the Kansas Speedway, but administration spokesmen said the door wasn't ending negotiations with American Indians or others seeking to build gambling venues.

Since 1993, when riverboat casinos began luring Kansans into Missouri, lawmakers in Kansas have struggled about whether to build casinos in urban areas, tourist towns and at racetracks so the state could get part of the revenue action.

Savannah riverfront to see casino boat revival - 2004-01-14
A decade following when the last casino boats went out of business on Savannah's River Street, a new operation is ready to roll.

From Savannah's waterfront, the casino intends to have two daily cruises to international waters three miles offshore, where betting is legal. Manager partner Jim Monaghan stated that the boat will have 325 slot machines and live gambling at black jack, craps, roulette and poker tables, and sports betting through satellite feed.
