Casino issues bids to purchase - 2004-01-15
Mountain High Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado's biggest casino, and which filed for bankruptcy in November 2002, could end up in the hands of a local rival.

The owner of Fitzgerald's Casino in Black Hawk revealed Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Denver that it has great interest in purchasing Mountain High, which originally cost $150 million and operated as Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt until it reopened under its current name in May.

When the new Pala Casino Resort and Spa threw itself a gala last year, the invitations read, "You're invited to the grand launch of our fabulous four-star resort."

But anyone who hoped for the stately attraction of a place like New York's Pierre hotel -- which is rated four-star by the rigorous Mobil Travel Guides -- might be disheartened.
