Casinos' earnings a jackpot for Detroit region - 2004-01-15
Despite a depressing economy, the city's casinos have done better than watchdogs predicted when the first one launched in 1999, and in the past five years they have accumulated a surprising $4.2 billion.
"It's been a spectacular rise, one of the few things that actually increased in Detroit," Comerica bank economist David Littmann informed the Detroit Free Press for a Thursday story. "Casinos have been a boost for an otherwise poor-revenue situation. The casino industry is exactly what the doctor ordered for Detroit."
