City aims to get $1 mil from tribe for Heard - 2004-01-15
City authorities are applying for a $1 million grant from a tribe that has gambling casinos to help pay for a new exhibit at the Heard Museum.

Under Proposition 202, tribes were allowed to add slot machines and launch Nevada-style blackjack in their gaming establishments in exchange for sharing some of their casino winnings with the state. Of the money contributed by tribes, 88 percent is allocated to specific state funds and 12 percent to cities, towns and districts of the tribes' choice.

Gambling defender says towns in uproar - 2004-01-15
Several northeastern Colorado towns have offered to be the locale of a proposed Indian casino and cultural facility, advocates reported on Wednesday.

However, Hillard wouldn't publicize which communities are looking for consideration.
The Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes of Oklahoma are proposing a $150 million casino, travel center and Plains Indian Cultural and Media Center to be constructed on 500 acres.
