Hands off the proceeds, tribes relay to governor - 2004-01-15
Indian leaders Wednesday doubted Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s attempts to generate additional profits from tribal casinos as well as a ballot initiative looking to approve slot machines on non-Indian lands.

The tribe runs 700 slot machines at the Augustine Casino in Coachella, much less than the 2,000 slots permitted per tribe, according to the state compacts.

Cops will be watching Raceway - 2004-01-15
While City Public Safety Commissioner Tom Curley doesn't foresee a rise in criminal activity when slot-machine-like video gaming machines are introduced at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway, the county's district attorney is using a wait-and-see approach.

Murphy stated that their experience has shown fewer crime problems at VLT-only venues than at full-blown casinos that also include table games like blackjack, roulette and poker.
