Dubuque casino extended development gets greenlight - 2004-01-16
State gambling regulators Thursday overwhelmingly authorized a $15.6 million expansion to integrate 400 slot machines at Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino.

The ruling caught Iowa House Speaker Christopher Rants, a Sioux City Republican, off guard. Rants stated that he hadn't expected the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to authorize any expansions because the commission recently asked legislators to study whether Iowa should issue more riverboat casino licenses.

Man sues for a place in tribe - 2004-01-16
An adopted man who insists his biological father was a Pechanga Indian is suing to acquire admission to the wealthy tribe.
Joe Liska, 43, pledged that he will protest outside the Pechanga Casino in Temecula at 2 p.m. Saturday in an attemtp to pressure the band into adopting him and his two children.

''This is not a club. This is a tribe. It's a blood right,'' Liska explained to The Press-Enterprise by telephone from his Arizona home.
