For years, Tony Kim sat on the sidelines and observed customers looking to purchase gas, snacks or cigarettes bypassed his store here and crossed the state line into Kentucky in search of one article he couldn't deliver: lottery tickets.

Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana and South Carolina have state lotteries. Mississippi is home to the casino community of Tunica, while Alabama has dog racing and Arkansas boasts dog and horse racing. Cherokee Indians supervise a casino in North Carolina.

Campbell's comment brings music to Dem ears - 2004-01-19
If U.S. Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell wants to quit his job, Democrats say they'd love to help.
Campbell, chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, informed The Denver Post last week that he feels like Indian gambling issues put him in a "crossfire" - a position so unnerving that, at times, "I wish I wasn't even a senator."

The tribes initially proposed a casino reservation for 500 acres on the Eastern Plains of Colorado. But Friday they altered their plan to Central City, a Colorado gambling town, where they would propose to put a reservation.
