Regulators authorize Dubuque casino development - 2004-01-19
State gambling regulators have approved the expansion plans at the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino.

Last November, the commission voted to ask the Legislature to determine whether a five-year-old moratorium on new casino licenses should be removed.

On-course bookmakers will be affected by the consolidation of state-based gambling agencies, as reported by a top bookmaker.

"But no one wants to talk about it while the mergers are happening," Con Kafartis explained.

His method reached its climax last year when he purchased Alice Springs-based betting agency CentreBet for $46.55 million as a cast-off from Tabcorp's sale of Jupiter's Casino last year.
