Some Indian bands bring back an old penalty: prohibition - 2004-01-02
Prohibition, long viewed as the absolute punishment among American Indians, is making a return among tribes attempting to find more solid methods to deal with gangs and drugs.
The modern version means banning troublemakers off the reservation, but can also include stripping them of their tribal membership - a painful chastisement in tribes that share casino profits with members.
