Gov. proceeds with gambling bills - 2004-01-21
Still contesting a proposed casino, but protective of the state’s two existing gambling parlors, Gov. Donald L. Carcieri is filing two pieces of legislation that would function in keeping a casino at bay.
The governor’s proposals come on the heels of a poll administered by Lincoln Park that found almost 60 percent of Rhode Islanders prefer a casino, but 75 percent believe it should pay the same gaming tax as Lincoln and Newport.
