7 businesses contend for casino license - 2004-01-21
The Illinois Gaming Board on Tuesday stated that it will consider bids from seven companies competing for the state's available 10th casino license, now held by the bankrupt Emerald Casino.

Three of the companies that proposed bids stated they would put their casino in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, where Emerald was to locate. Those companies are Caesars Entertainment; Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc.; and Penn National Gaming, which owns Hollywood Casino in Aurora.

House Gaming decision, No tax hikes - 2004-01-21
Rep. Bobby Moak, chairman of the new House Gaming Committee, states that he doesn't expect tax hikes on casinos during the next four years.

The association has been airing television ads in recent weeks touting the $326 million a year that casinos allocate to the state budget. The money goes into the $3.6 billion general fund and assists in funding schools, prisons and a host of other state programs.
