Many people viewed the Pyramid as the economic trolley dragging North Memphis out of depresson.

Since the Pyramid launched, a lot of investment has poured into the Pinch District.
And Willingham claims a Pyramid casino is still possible. He says anything can happen, but one thing's for certain. The Pyramid he says, is too valuable to stay empty.

Pataki seeks gambling to balance the budget again - 2004-01-22
Confronted with a court mandate on school funding and at nearly a $5 billion revenue shortfall, Gov. George Pataki is again looking to gambling to balance a fragile state budget.

His proposal to establish a total of eight new casinos including the slot machine-like video lottery terminals is bringing criticism from both gambling opponents and those leery of associating VLT casino revenues with hikes in education funding.
