Russian region wagers on high casino tax for budget - 2004-01-24
Deputies in the Kaliningrad Region duma expect to force top officials in the regional administration to quit. Casino owners who are upset about such high rates are relocating their businesses to other Russian regions, and many are expecting to go underground.

The most imaginative have found loopholes in Russian legislation that permit them to construct a casino in one area and pay taxes in another, where the gaming table or fruit machine is registered.

Crooks re-appointed to tribal chairman post - 2004-01-24
Stanley R. Crooks, who was unopposed, was re-elected to his fourth-consecutive four-year duration as chairman of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community Business Council.

The Business Council takes office Jan. 31. It consists of three elected officers, and oversees operations of the tribal community government, such as non-gaming enterprises. Among its multiple industry enterprises are Mystic Lake Casino Hotel, Little Six Casino and Dakotah Sport & Fitness.
