City Council wants probe into land acquisition - 2004-01-24
The Erie City Council demanded a state probe of a group of land acquisitions next to the previous site of International Paper Co. by people close to Mayor Rick Filippi.

Filippi has been the head negotiator for the acquiring of the property along Lake Erie and has shopped the site to developers for a thoroughbred horse racing track and potentially a casino.

Families mourn loved ones in Samaritan shooting - 2004-01-24
Two nights of battles at a truck-stop casino resulted with one participant setting off a rifle into a vehicle where a man was safely hiding out, killing another who was not linked to the fighting in any way and leaving families of everyone associated devastated.

Lafourche Parish authorities explained that the Wednesday-night death had its roots in a battle that started Tuesday night at a pool table in the Lucky 7 truck stop.
