If the Dane County Board had a vote today on the proposed DeJope casino, it would merely be defeated.

No Dane Casino, the grass-roots citizen group batlling the establishment of a full-blown casino in Madison, has received endorsements from 22 of the 37 County Board supervisors in its attempts to get out the "no" vote when the question is put before the public in a Feb. 17 election.

State seems to use $58M surplus - 2004-01-24
A month after state officials received word of the extra money for the current budget year, lawmakers already were seeking ways to use it Friday, like filling in education shortfalls and paying for inmate medical care.

Other items included money to pay for sheriffs’ housing of state prisoners, to design an entry-level exam for the Louisiana State Police, to fill in a state police hole because of less than projected riverboat casino income and assist in paying the National Association of Secretaries of State conference in New Orleans in July.
