VGMs prepared to launch in a city that's no stranger to betting - 2004-01-26
New casino-type devices that will launch Wednesday at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway are the most recent chapter in the Spa City's long and colorful history as a center for gambling.

In 1949, roulette wheels stopped spinning permanently when U.S. Sen. Estes Kefauver initiated a nationwide crackdown that stopped one aspect of the city's gambling heritage.
Now, with the introduction of 1,300 slot-like video gaming machines, Saratoga Springs is about to bring in yet another era of gambling-related activity.

$100 gamble on Panthers could turn to $10,000 for one man - 2004-01-26
Page Long's confidance in the Carolina Panthers could win him $10,000.

Last summer, while in Las Vegas, Long's sister-in-law, Lori Hunt put a $100 wager for him that the Panthers would win the Super Bowl.

Hunt placed her brother-in-law's bet with a sports book at the Luxor Hotel casino. The people who took the money attempted to persuade her to simply take Long's money and tell him she lost it on the roulette table, she admitted.
