Are the costs of extending casino gambling in Minnesota worth the advantages?

State coffers would benefit from the tens of millions of direct tax dollars a state-sponsored casino at Canterbury Park would generate. The Minnesota-based owners of the horsetrack would definitely benefit, too, as would the state's horseracing business.

Initiative may provoke yet more California gaming - 2004-01-27
A proposed California ballot initiative that could advance competition for Nevada’s gaming dollars was granted an initial green light in Sacramento on Monday.

“It’s going to be hard to get the initiative process going down there,” explained Satre, whose company runs the Harrah’s Rincon casino resort in San Diego County for one tribe.
