Video slots show up in convenience store - 2004-01-28
A tank of gasoline, a bottle of pop and a rapid opportunity to win merchandise.

Once relegated to taverns, electronic amusement devices --- which look like video slot machines minus the pull arm --- are making inroads at regional convenience stores.

The sole machine, found next to the ATM and the state pull-tab lottery ticket dispenser, has been in the store for around three weeks, and it's beginning to draw players.

Nebraska Governor Contests Gambling Development - 2004-01-28
Gov. Mike Johanns revealed Tuesday he believes the expanded gambling initiative expected to hit the streets next month is "a recipe for unmitigated disaster" in the state.

The plan approving casinos, slot-machine parlors and video gambling is provoked by 'so much self-interest,' the governor stated, and represents 'an ugly-looking initiative'.
