The wet blanket of snow that dropped ahead of New Year’s Day didn’t stop Carson City casinos from packing in patrons.

“It was probably a little subdued, but very busy,” said Doug Brown, director of marketing for the Carson City Nugget. “It was quieter than normal. I am not sure if that was the threat of terrorism or the mood or the weather or whatever.”

Ho-Chunk members talk to casino opponents - 2004-01-06
Foes of a proposed Madison casino talked face-to-face with members of the Ho-Chunk Nation on Monday night in the first ever meeting on a Feb. 17 casino referendum.

Monday's meeting, called by the grass-roots group No Dane Casino, featured several anti-casino speakers and included a lively question-and-answer session with roughly 200 people at the Madison Civic Center's Marquee Room.
