Permit denied for casino Baguio - 2004-01-06
Mayor Bernardo Vergara on Tuesday claimed he would not grant any permit for the operation of the contro­versial casino at Camp John Hay despite the city council’s okay for its opening.

Vergara said he earlier ordered City Treasurer Thelma Manaois not to process any application for a business permit covering the controversial gambling enterprise.

“My order stands and I reiterate not to sign any business license for any casino operator,” he stressed.

Former associate claims Rose did bet from clubhouse - 2004-01-06
One of Pete Rose's former gambling associates disagrees with the career hit leader's claim that he never wagered on baseball from the Cincinnati Reds' clubhouse.

Thomas Gioiosa, who once lived in Rose's Cincinnati home and now owns a health-supplement store in Ormond Beach, Fla., said in a telephone interview Tuesday that he often saw Rose wager on baseball before games.
