American Real Estate to acquire two Las Vegas casinos - 2004-01-06
American Real Estate Partners LP revealed on Monday it had agreed to acquire two Arizona Charlie's casinos in Las Vegas from its chairman and controlling shareholder, Carl Icahn, for $125.9 million and intended to offer $200 million in debt.

The Mount Kisco, New York-based owner of the Stratosphere Casino Hotel & Tower on the Las Vegas Strip said its indirectly wholly owned subsidiary, American Casino & Entertainment Properties, would buy the Arizona Charlie's Decatur and Boulder properties from Icahn and an affiliated entity.

Kentucky Legislative Leaders Lukewarm on Racetrack Gaming - 2004-01-06
With the 2004 Kentucky General Assembly session set to begin on Jan. 6, the state's racing and breeding industry, which has established legislation to authorize a constitutional amendment on racetrack casinos, is working to gather sponsors.

Legislative leaders, however, continue to downplay the chances of passage of any bill to expand gambling. On the Jan. 5 edition of Kentucky Tonight on the KET network, the issue of expanded gambling was broached, and it received a rather rude reception.
