Negotiator chosen for gambling talks - 2004-01-08
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday selected as his lead negotiator for new tribal gambling agreements the man who held the same position six years ago, when then-Gov. Pete Wilson clashed with many state tribes over how big Indian casinos could become.
Daniel Kolkey, who stepped down in November from a seat on a California appellate court, said he planned to begin talks with tribes next week in an effort to fulfill Schwarzenegger's campaign promise to get the tribes to turn over up to 25 percent of their slot-machine revenues to the state.
