There was a moment when you could walk into any casino and observe the likes of Benny Binion, Morris Shenker, Sam Boyd and possibly a dozen other colorful gaming pioneers personally welcome their customers.
In those days casino hosts treated you like family and weren't timid about talking of their own family members, whose family names were Gambino, Aiuppa or Civella.
For the most part, however, those days are done.

Town, parish argue over casino - 2004-02-10
This city seeks a greater share of the anticipated profit from the new Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino.

Currently, 58 percent of 4 percent of Evangeline Downs' revenue goes to the St. Landry Parish council.

"They were the governing authority at that time. Now we are the governing authority," declared Mayor Anna Simmons, in regards to Opelousas' annexation of Evangeline Downs.
