Washington Tribe Receives Backing For Casino - 2004-02-11
The Puyallup Tribe of Indians garnered the support of the Port of Tacoma in attempts to establish a third casino on reservation land.
In return, the tribe will omit its objection to the port's proposed shut down of Alexander Avenue, needed for development of a $210 million container terminal on Blair Waterway.

The location of a third Puyallup Tribe casino - and the possible shut down and move of the Emerald Queen - is under study, stated Puyallup Tribal Chairman Bill Sterud.

Port-tribe alliance will be greeted - but not a third casino - 2004-02-11
There's reason to rejoice over the new partnership between the Port of Tacoma and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians - a partnership that could lead to thousands of new employment on the Tideflats.
But let's temper the celebration with worry about the proposed new casino - which would be the Puyallup nation's third - that may, unfortunately, be a part of the package.

The Puyallups' lucrative Emerald Queen casino is situated off Alexander farther up the Blair. Though it can also be contacted by a more roundabout route, the road's closure endangers its profits.
