Success at Hard Rock casino location - 2004-02-11
Ground was broken Tuesday at the location of the first casino to be constructed on the Gulf Coast since 1999.
The $235 million Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi is expected to launch in summer 2005. The site is just east of Beau Rivage, where the old Gold Shore Casino was situated.

Plans request a total of 48,500 square feet of gaming space and a 306-room hotel. A Hard Rock Live club is intended to be built next to the hotel.

Lawmakers eye tax hike to rid racetrack debt - 2004-02-11
Legislative officials are proposing a statewide property tax for gambling facilities as a strategy to regain the $112 million it owes racetracks in case the two sides are incapable of coming up with a deal.

The Iowa Supreme Court last week struck down the state's gaming tax structure, deciding in favor of the state's three racetracks that had sued. The tracks declared that they were unfairly taxed at a greater rate than the state's 10 riverboat casinos.
