Gaughan takes a bet on winning Daytona launch - 2004-02-12
Brendan Gaughan played college basketball under John Thompson at Georgetown, so he's aware other sports are uneasy about gambling. But Gaughan, who now drives race cars, sees nothing wrong with wagering on himself to win the Daytona 500 at a Las Vegas sportsbook.

Gaughan dwells in Las Vegas, where his father runs the Orleans casino. But Gaughan stated that he is not permitted to bet at his family's casino.

Hurdles stacked high for card room proposals - 2004-02-12
Anyone seeking to fill the void made by the closing of the Outpost Casino last year has to clear a long list of obstacles to apply for a card room license.
The police shuttered the city's sole card room, the Outpost Casino, in April 2003, when proprietor Mark Luciano did not pay the $12,500 needed to renew his city gambling license.

The casino was a well-known drinking hole and after-work gathering spot, but many locals viewed the timeworn card room an eyesore.
