Measure Would Grant N.Y. Tracks Complete Casinos - 2004-02-13
Racetracks in New York would be allowed to have complete Las Vegas-style casinos under new state legislation that also calls for a constitutional amendment to allow non-Indian casinos in the Catskills and Western New York.

Unlike the 2001 legislation that permits only VLTs at racetracks, the new proposal calls for slot machines and other conventional casino games. The racetrack gambling would be authorized for no more than eight hours on days with live racing.

Five additional casinos could be available for state - 2004-02-13
The stage was set Thursday for a high-stakes legislative dispute on gambling with the revelation of a bill that would permit five additional casino licenses in Iowa but would not permit a new casino in counties that have one.

A draft of House Study Bill 122 was disclosed to a room packed with reporters, television cameras, legislators and lobbyists. The bill calls for allowing table games at racetracks and ending a requirement that riverboats take cruises.
