Subway creator supports tribe - 2004-02-13
Milford-based Subway founder Frederick A. DeLuca supported the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation's successful proposal to gain federal recognition, in hopes the tribe would construct a casino in his native Bridgeport.
He said he invested in the Schaghticokes out of the desire that their first choice for constructing a hotel and casino would be Bridgeport, home of the first Subway shop.

"I feel like I owe a lot to Bridgeport," DeLuca shared. "It think what the city really needs is a large amount of jobs."

On Wednesday morning at the state Capitol, a woman who stole from her employer to feed the slot machines at Foxwoods Resort Casino included her tale to the state's increasing history of legalized gambling.
