Plan permits non-Indian casinos - 2004-02-13
Perturbed by the absence of casino construction in Buffalo and the Catskills by Indian tribes, state legislators are urging a new plan to alter the state constitution to allow non-Indian casinos in those districts.

In the Senate, legislation was brought in this week calling for a constitutional amendment allowing Las Vegas-style casinos in several regions, including Buffalo. Additionally, complete casinos would be permitted at close to all of the state's racetracks, like Buffalo Raceway and Batavia Downs, which currently are moving to launch gambling halls with slot-like machines.

Pull tabs pass House, Senate authorization uncertain - 2004-02-13
Legislation to permit pull tab machines at Indiana horse racetracks and two off-track sites succeeded in a 53-39 vote win last week in the House, but victory in the Senate is not so certain.

The bill asks for machines at Hoosier Park, Anderson, Indiana Downs, Shelbyville, and off-track locations in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, with a 33 percent wagering tax on the machines.
