Casino Firm Weaves Web for Supporters - 2004-02-16
The 18 south suburban towns competing to bring casino gambling to Country Club Hills have taken their case to the Internet.

UnitedSouthland.org, revealed Wednesday, describes the consortium's proposal to protect the state's final gaming license and encourage citizens to support the proposal.

'We realize the power of the World Wide Web to convey our ideas and show our plans to the public,' explained Midlothian Village President Thomas Murawski, spokesman for United Southland.

Casino Businesses Continue To Top Tax List - 2004-02-16
The tax man cometh, but his nibble is not exactly the same for everybody.
The current taxable worth of Clark County's leading casino companies actually fell slightly from last year, an annual list disclosed by the Clark County assessor's office reported.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor and casino trade expert Bill Thompson stated that casino company profit rates "were pushing 10 percent before 9-11 and dropped overnight to 2 percent. That certainly explains the change in (taxable) values. The decline was a lot less than the drop in profits."
