At 42, James Robinson is at a standstill, just like the gambling trade around him.
A one-time casino shift manager, for the last five months Robinson has been employed at Corky's, a restaurant leasing space in the Tropicana Casino Resort. He earns $6.50 hourly as a restaurant host - roughly half of what he made at his previous job and $1.32 less than a casino host.
There are roughly 500 subcontracted employees in Atlantic City, where casino industry employment has slid from its high in 1997.
