An additional casino could be in works for Natchez - 2004-02-17
The Mississippi Gaming Commission is intended to approve the development of a $53 million Natchez casino.
Charles Cato of St. Petersburg, Fla., president of Emerald Star Casino and Resort, is expected to discuss plans Wednesday for the complex that would be built south of the Mississippi River bridge in Natchez.

In following state rules, the developer would have six months to acquire funding and gain commission authorization and two years to launch the casino, stated Larry Gregory, who is suggesting the three gaming commissioners approve the site and plans.

Indian gambling arguement gets controversial - 2004-02-17
State legislative hearings on the 15-year-old gambling compacts the state has with 11 American Indian tribes sought the help of accusatory tones in the Minnesota House and Senate on Monday.

Some House Republican legislators recommended the state's inability to professionally police the gambling trade allowed tribes to rip off gamblers, while Democrats stated that attempts to relaunch the compacts or to create new state or privately owned casinos were just barely revealed forms of racism towards American Indians.
