Casino still leader of tax payers in Nevada - 2004-02-17
The tax man cometh, but his grip is not the same for all. The existing taxable worth of Clark County's top casino companies practically fell slightly from last year, an annual directory disclosed by the Clark County assessor's office indicated.
Bill Thompson, a University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor and casino trade professional, explained that casino company profit rates "were pushing 10 percent preceeding 9-11 and dropped overnight to 2 percent. That certainly explains the change in (taxable) values. The decline was a lot less than the drop in profits."
