The National Hockey League — “the other white meat” amidst U.S. professional sports — is a mad cow diseased. Turnout is dropping sharply, TV ratings are sinking and scoring has fallen — and that’s just the good news.
It’s a hockey game, for goodness sakes, and I ain’t dishing out a couple of double sawbucks for a 2-2 tie. Not to mention, if I wanted to bring a family of four to a game — granted, a statistical improbability — I’d have to hit 35 $5 blackjack hands straight just to cover the complete price of walking through the arena’s entrance.
