Laughlin continues to solidify share of casino action - 2004-02-17
Casinos in Laughlin received $552.1 million from bettors in 2003, roughly as much as they did in 2002, according to statistics just disclosed by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

Last year's performance shows Laughlin handled heightened rivalry from Arizona, where Indian casinos debuted Nevada-style blackjack last February.

The National Hockey League — “the other white meat” amidst U.S. professional sports — is a mad cow diseased. Turnout is dropping sharply, TV ratings are sinking and scoring has fallen — and that’s just the good news.

It’s a hockey game, for goodness sakes, and I ain’t dishing out a couple of double sawbucks for a 2-2 tie. Not to mention, if I wanted to bring a family of four to a game — granted, a statistical improbability — I’d have to hit 35 $5 blackjack hands straight just to cover the complete price of walking through the arena’s entrance.
