High-stakes casino referendum finally arrives - 2004-02-17
Following hearing the pros and cons of a casino for six weeks in Madison, Dane County voters will decide today if they want DeJope Bingo Hall transformed into a casino.

Gov. Jim Doyle insists he'll follow the results of the casino referendum. Doyle has the right to allow the Ho-Chunk Nation to transform DeJope into a casino, providing gambling like blackjack, poker, craps and slot machines.

Stakes increased at LCI - 2004-02-17
Stakebuilding in London Clubs International were ongoing yesterday when the Malaysian Genting family increased its holding in the casino operator to 15.2 per cent.

The Genting group, which already had a holding of over 11 per cent, is understood to be keen to take advantage of looming changes to gambling legislation that will be to the advantage of casino operators. Under the intended changes for next year, owners will have the right to integrate large numbers of lucrative slot machines.
