Casino law seems dead for the year - 2004-02-18
It seems that gambling law in Kentucky won't yield any results this year.
In spite of a strong push by Kentucky's thoroughbred trade, the president of the state Senate claims there is little chance legislation making casino gambling legal will be approved this year.

Track proprietors and operators, as well as breeders and others in the trade, have said for years that casino gambling - preferably video slots at racetracks - are required to compete with casinos in Indiana, Illinois and elsewhere.

Expanded gambling plan too limited, insist advocates - 2004-02-18
Even advocates of expanded gambling in Kansas aren't fully satisfied with Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' "Expanded Gaming Opportunity Act."

In a hearing before the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee, dog- and horse-racing track owners, casino developers and representatives of state fraternal organizations all voiced concern that the governor's proposal would gravely limit their chances.
